Facebook is a great way to stay connected with friends and family, but it can also be a drain on your time and energy. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by Facebook and want to take some steps to remove yourself from the site, here are five tips.

  1. Set boundaries. Don’t let Facebook become your only source of social interaction. Instead, try meeting up with friends in person or participating in other activities that you enjoy.
  2. Delete old posts and photos. If you no longer want to see or share old posts or photos, delete them from your Facebook account. This will help keep your profile clean and organized, making it easier to focus on current activities on the site.
  3. Limit access to personal information. If you don’t need access to certain personal information (like your birthdate), set privacy settings so that only friends can see that information and share content with you. This will help reduce the amount of spammy content that appears in your newsfeeds.
  4. Remove yourself from groups and pages you no longer use or care about. Groups can be a great way to connect with like-minded people, but if you no longer use or care about the group’s content, it’s best to remove yourself from it altogether. Pages are similar; if you don’t care about what’s being shared on the page, it’s best to unsubscribe from it altogether ..

Your account will be permanently deleted, including your profile, pictures, postings, videos, and everything else you’ve added. You won’t be able to retrieve anything you’ve posted before or done on Facebook Messenger. Facebook Messenger will no longer be available for use.

Click Deactivation and Deletion in the left column. Select Permanently Delete Account and then Continue to Account Deletion. Click Delete Account, type your password, and then Continue.

When you deactivate your Facebook account, no notification is sent out. Unless they try to look for your now-deleted profile or inquire about it in person, your friends will have no idea that you’ve disconnected.

If a user has blocked you, you won’t be able to see their profile since links will revert back to plain text. Their name will remain on your timeline, but you won’t be able to click on it.

After you’ve deactivated your Facebook account, Messenger will continue to work. Using Messenger after deactivating your Facebook account won’t reactivate it, and your Facebook friends can still contact you.
