If you have an email account and you no longer need it, you can delete it by going to the account’s settings and clicking on the “delete” button.


You cannot delete an Exchange ActiveSync e-mail account from the device; it must be deleted from your company’s server first. If you do not know how to address this contact IT support at your workplace for assistance in removing the account from the server.

If you want to use the e-mail address associated with a Yahoo! Mail, AOL, or EarthLink account on another device or computer when prompted by the setup wizard select “I already have set up my email”. This will copy the settings for your previous email account to this new one.

The following are some of the more common reasons people may choose to delete an unused email account. We strongly encourage you to read through them all before deciding which is right for you and then perform.

from your iPhone

Launch the Mail app from the Home screen of your iPhone. Which email account do you wish to remove? Tap on that account. If you have multiple email accounts set up, use the Split View mode by dragging down with 2 fingers (or double-tapping on the row of icons with 1 finger). Tap on Mailbox. Tap Edit in the top right corner of the window, then tap minus icon (-) next to unwanted mail account(s). Confirm your desired selection by tapping Delete in the bottom right corner when done. Exit out of Settings and launch Mail again for changes to take effect.

Here’s how to delete an email account from the iPad: Launch the Settings app from the home screen of your iPad. Scroll down and find Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap on it to open settings for the Mail app. Next, select the Accounts & Passwords option from the menu bar at the top of the Settings screen. Scroll to the bottom of the screen then taps Remove Account… next to the account that you wish to delete (delete all if you are asked). Confirm your selection by tapping Delete Account in the upper left corner when prompted. Exit out of Settings and launch Mail again for changes to take effect

How to remove an email address 

from the address book 

Launch your mail app. Tap on the Contacts icon in the upper right corner of the main window. (If you don’t see it, tap on the screen until you find and tap it.) Find a contact that has an email associated with it and tap on its name to open details for the contact. Scroll down to the bottom of the contact page till you find an E-mail that should have an email address listed alongside it. Tap E-mail then Delete next to deleted address if present or Cancel when removing all addresses at once. Exit out of contacts app and launch again if changes are not immediately visible.

Deleting your email account from your Android, using a web browser like Chrome, works just as well.

If you don’t access your Gmail for 24 months (two years), it will be considered inactive. You may lose the data stored on Gmail that includes messages, files, pictures, and videos if this is the case. But you won’t forfeit your account in doing so.

You can remove an old email address by removing it from your list of previous recipients. To do this, go to Mail and then click on the Window menu and Previous Recipients. Next, find the old contact you want to remove and press Remove from List.

If you no longer use Google services like Gmail or YouTube, log in to your account and delete the ones that are unnecessary. If you want to take it a step further, deleting your entire account will rid you of all the emails and photos stored on their servers.
