If you’re like most people, you probably use Roku a lot. But if you ever need to cancel your account, it can be a little tricky. Here’s how to do it. ..

If you’ve been holding out for a cheaper media stick, we can help: This year, the company unveiled the new $50 Roku Streaming Stick+ ( ). It has an array of four antennas that provide stronger WiFi reception in areas where TV signals might be weak — especially useful if you live in an apartment building — and it supports top-tier 4K Ultra HD TVs.

Roku’s voice search functionality is powered by Google, so you can ask to play a show and it’ll automatically start streaming that episode or movie via the service used by the channel or app. Roku also supports universal search, which — similar to what you get with Apple TV — will search multiple services at once (for example, “Show me comedies on Netflix that include Adam Sandler”). You won’t necessarily get every option for an actor across each service, however — and again like Apple TV, there isn’t always Siri-like support in place to help narrow down your results. And while third-party apps may offer personalized recommendations based on your viewing history (like Netflix does), the interface isn’t as seamless or easy to navigate.

Beyond the design of these devices and their voice search capabilities are hardware specifications that affect picture quality. Roku devices all run on top of either a quad-core processor (for its entry-level boxes) or a dual-core processor (for more powerful set-top boxes). That means they’re faster than some competitors, like Google Chromecast which only has one core, so when streaming 4K content, there is no buffering. You can also purchase top-of-the line new models for $130 or $200, depending on memory size and resolution capability — but those high specs come at a cost.

If you have a Roku subscription, cancel it by selecting ‘Cancel subscriptions’ and then closing your account.

Go to my.roku.com, click or tap the update button for Payment method > Remove payment method > select Remove.

To reset your Roku password, go to my.roku.com/password on your computer or smartphone and enter the email address you use for your account. If an account is found, a password reset code will be sent to that address in an email if there is one registered under it.

Go to Device connect on your Roku setting page. Choose Disable “Device Connect” Page 3. You are finished, and the Roku will grab the same Wi-Fi channel as the nearest Wi-Fi network access point (e.g., yours). It will broadcast a wireless SSID DIRECT-roku-123A2 or “Hidem” that is available on the same channel.

If you no longer have access to the device linked to your Roku account, you can remove it. This will not cancel any paid subscriptions to the Roku service on other devices, only close this user’s account.
