Skype and Microsoft accounts share a lot of information, but it’s not always clear what exactly is shared. Here’s a look at what you need to know about the data sharing between these two popular online services. First and foremost, both Skype and Microsoft account holders are privy to each other’s contact lists. This means that if you’re on Skype with someone who also has a Microsoft account, your contacts will show up in their respective contact lists. Additionally, any files that you share with someone through Skype—including photos, videos, and documents—will be shared between your accounts. However, there are some key differences between how the two services handle data sharing. For one thing, Skype doesn’t allow you to share files with people who don’t have a Microsoft account. Additionally, while both services let you see each other’s contact lists and chat history, Skype keeps more of your chat logs private than does Microsoft. This means that if you want to see all of the messages that someone has sent or received on Skype (even if they’ve deleted them), you’ll need to access their chat logs manually. ..

The unlinked account ID will be deleted from the Skype Account Profile page. If you set up a new Skype account with your Microsoft credentials and decide to unlink it, you’ll lose all of the Skype items you bought for that account.

Since October 2016, Microsoft accounts, as well as other Microsoft services such as OneDrive, have been linked to Skype accounts. It is no longer possible to delete your Skype account without also canceling your Microsoft Account as a result of this change.

It is not possible to combine or separate your Skype account with a Microsoft account. You’ll have access to sign in to all of your Microsoft services, including SkyDrive, Office Online, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, Xbox, and more with your account.

Deactivating the account is another option. If you deactivate your Microsoft Account, your acquired data such as purchase and chat history will be permanently deleted from the system. After the account is closed, it may take up to 30 days for your name to disappear from the Skype directory.

You can use Skype without an account for the first time. Microsoft is making it easier to use Skype without a full account. On the internet, you may set up a group chat with up to 300 participants and up to 25 people on a voice or video call, while using Skype sans an account.
