Facebook has been deleting Messenger accounts for people who have not used the messaging service in a month, according to a report. The company is reportedly doing this in order to improve its messaging platform and make it more user-friendly. This is not the first time Facebook has been deleting Messenger accounts. In March, Facebook announced that it was discontinuing support for the app because it was struggling to keep up with the growth of WhatsApp.

Deactivating your Facebook account does not affect the functionality of Facebook Messenger. If you delete Facebook, all of your data is lost forever. You may not know, though, that deactivating your Facebook account does not deactivate Facebook Messenger. People will be able to see you and send you messages after you deactivate your profile.

You’ll be asked whether you wish to remove the message and, if you confirm, your copy of the conversation is permanently deleted. The text is then removed from your version of the discussion, although it remains in everyone else’s correspondence.

You can keep using Messenger after you deactivate your Facebook account. If you had a Facebook account and deactivated it, using Messenger won’t reactivate your Facebook account, and your Facebook friends can still message you. Download the Messenger mobile app if you don’t already have it.

Click on your profile in the upper left corner, then Chats. Click Account settings beneath your Facebook information. Tap Delete Your Account and Information below your Facebook information. Select deactivate and type in your password.

There’s no way to completely remove a Facebook account, but Messenger can still be used. Instead, you may deactivate your account and continue using Messenger to stay in touch with friends. The only significant drawback is that you’ll almost certainly need to add Messenger contacts from your phone’s contact list.
